Fundamentals of Disaster Preparedness Class

Disasters don't plan ahead, but you can! Learn how you can prepare for a disaster in this fun and interactive course.

About the class

Despite advances in science and technology, we continue to be plagued by the threat of natural and human-made disasters. We recognize that while local, state, and the federal government are keenly interested in supporting their respective communities before, during, and after a disaster, their resources are limited. Disaster preparedness is the responsibility of every individual and it starts on a personal level. Our mission is to help mitigate disasters and increase community resilience starting with education and awareness at the individual and family level. Our comprehensive one hour disaster preparedness curriculum assists individuals and families to recognize their role and responsibility to be prepared for potential disasters, along with how to begin taking the next steps towards preparedness.

Our curriculum is based on the guidelines and standards set forth by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). It is an introductory approach to performing a risk and hazard assessment, how to receive important emergency alerts and notifications, how to create a family communication plan, how to assemble a disaster kit, as well as considering the special and unique needs of individual families. Combined with our line of custom emergency and disaster products we educate, prepare, and equip individuals and families to be ready to handle man-made and natural disasters.

"It's the class you didn't know you needed until you've had it"

How does the class work?

This curriculum is designed to be portable and available in a variety of settings and locations. It is led by an instructor who will encourage student participation and discussion. As part of the presentation students will have an opportunity to have a hands on look at the Instinct Ready line of disaster preparedness products.

All students will receive a course guide that contains valuable information covered in the class. Included in the course guide are multiple resources developed by FEMA and DHS such as a guide to creating a family communication plan. Students will have the option to receive the course guide in either a printed or digital form.
